BPH Workup

BPH (Enlarged Prostate)

Dr. Andrew Todd has a holistic approach to treating men with BPH (enlarged prostate) and chronic lower urinary tract symptoms.

It starts with assessing symptoms with a standardized IPSS questionnaire, assessing patient bother, looking at patient goals, and reviewing medical problems and prior treatments.

A complete prostate workup is then performed with PSA measurement, cystoscopy, prostate size assessment (usually ultrasound or MRI), and uroflowometry. This is important to look for any other urinary problems, like urethral stricture disease or bladder tumors. It also helps with counseling about the patient's bladder health, which can be seen visually. Prostatic obstruction and high bladder neck can also be seen, which factor into treatment decisions.

After the assessment, Dr. Todd will then sit-down with his patients and have a discussion about different treatment options available based on prostate size, anatomy, and patient health to review the pros and cons of many different treatment options.
