LEXINGTON, KY. – 12/03/2024 – Lexington Clinic Endocrinology now offers an innovative way to get a better picture of overall bone health than ever before. The Clinic now utilizes Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) in its Bone Density Reports, which may significantly improve detection rates for osteoporosis risk. Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease that causes compromised bone strength, leading to greater risk of fracture.
Bone strength is determined by two main components: bone quantity and bone quality. A standard Bone Density Report measures only bone quantity. This means many patients who are at risk for certain conditions, such as osteoporosis, may not be identified as such. TBS allows for the measurement of bone quality, filling in the missing piece of information necessary when assessing fracture risk.
TBS works by analyzing Bone Density Report scan images of the spine to determine the bone’s microarchitecture. This is an indirect measure of bone quality, which could not be assessed before introducing TBS technology.
Lexington Clinic Endocrinology specializes in the treatment of diabetes as well as other thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Through the advanced technology of Bone Density Reports, Lexington Clinic providers can detect and treat osteoporosis early to keep patients healthy and ahead of the disease.
