Dr. Merkley is board-certified in Gastroenterology and board-certified in Internal Medicine. He provides services in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy, flexible sigmoidoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy, upper endoscopy with biopsy, band ligation of varices, dilation of esophagus and pylorus, argon plasma coagulation/ablation of angiodysplasia, PEG placement/replacement and wireless small bowel capsule endoscopy (Pillcam). He provides care for patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal and liver diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, treatment for constipation/diarrhea, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, celiac disease, pancreatic and biliary disease including gallstones and pancreatitis, dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, swallowing disorders, eosinophillic esophagitis, GERD and Barrett's esophagus, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, steatohepatitis (fatty liver), autoimmune hepatitis, hemochromatosis and primary biliary cirrhosis. Dr. Merkley's professional interests include caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and treating patients with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders.
