Dr. Robert Lavey is board-certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Lavey received his MD degree from Stanford University, CA, and his MPH in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. He was Chief Resident and completed his Radiation Oncology residency at Duke University Medical Center, NC.
Dr. Lavey has been an executive in the American Cancer Society, American Society for Radiation Oncology, Southwest Oncology Group, Southern California Radiation Oncology Society, Los Angeles Radiologic Society, and Children’s Oncology Group. He served as Distinguished Scientific Advisor to the Radiologic Society of North America for 10 years. He authored 24 book chapters and over 45 peer-reviewed scientific articles on cancer. Dr. Lavey was the Principal Investigator or Radiation Therapy Coordinator of 15 international cooperative group clinical trials of innovative cancer treatments.
Dr. Lavey specializes in all types of external beam radiation treatment for cancer, including, but not limited to, lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, rectal cancer, head and neck cancer, brain tumors, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, sarcomas, pediatric cancer, and lymphoma. He is an expert in the most advanced radiation therapy treatment techniques, including volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT), intensity-modulated arc therapy (IMRT), tomotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), hypofractionated radiation therapy, 4-dimensional radiation therapy, superficial radiation therapy, and proton therapy.
