LEXINGTON, KY. – 9/6/2021 – In a promising development for cancer patients in Central Kentucky Lexington Clinic announced today that it has acquired the TrueBeam system for fast, powerful, accurate image-guided radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer.
TrueBeam technology, made by Varian Medical Systems, was engineered to deliver powerful cancer treatments with pinpoint accuracy and precision. It integrates imaging and motion management technologies within a sophisticated architecture that makes it possible to deliver treatments quickly while monitoring and compensating for tumor motion. It is operational at the Lexington Clinic Radiation Oncology office as of September 6th, 2022.
“TrueBeam enables us to treat even the most challenging cases with tremendous speed and precision,” said Dr. Falguni Amin-Zimmerman. “This system will make it possible for us to offer fast, more targeted treatments for tumors—even those that move when the patient breathes, such as lung tumors.”
The TrueBeam system incorporates “intelligent” automation that helps reduce treatment time. In many cases, patients can be in and out of the cancer center in as little as 20 minutes per day over a course of treatment. Simple treatments that once took 15 minutes or more once the patient was positioned for treatment can be completed in less than two. “These are significant reductions in treatment time,” said Dr. Zimmeman.“Patients will spend a whole lot less time lying immobilized and holding still on a hard surface.”
